I’m browsing through the book WordPress for Dummies a bit today, since both this blog and my webcomic will use WordPress as a platform, but in different flavors. WordPress.com gives you free blogging and web hosting with certain limitations, and WordPress.org sets you up with free software you can use to set up a site elsewhere. This blog is hosted on WordPress.com, and my webcomic will use the WordPress.org variety with the addition of the Comicpress plugin. I’ll post more about learning to blog and learning to use Comicpress in a later post.
Making a webcomic requires me to learn how to blog. Go figure.
What exactly is ComicPress? I’ve heard about it a little, but don’t know enough. Does it require money?
Comicpress is a theme for WordPress that pretty much sets up your blog for publishing a webcomic. A theme is sort of a template that sets up how your blog or webpage looks. The Comicpress theme provides navigation features like the “next comic” and “previous comic” buttons, and has archiving features that help you organize your old comics so people have easy access to them.
And it is FREE!! Yay.
I haven’t used it yet, but I will for sure blog about it when I do, and you can read about my experience with it.
Free?! You got me there. And we just download it off the site, correct?
Yep, just download it and awaaaay you go.
Oh, and how do I subscribe to your blog? I can’t seem to find the link anywhere o_O
Wow, thanks for asking for the subscribe link. I forgot to put that in there. Actually, it took me a while to figure out HOW to put that in there. You can now subscribe by going to the sidebar, looking under “meta” and clicking the “entries rss” link. I’d like to have the orange RSS logo and have it say simply “subscribe”, but I don’t think the free hosted version of WordPress I’m using lets me customize this.
Thanks for the comment!
